Claude’s new model is great, but at what cost?

ChatGPT drops its long awaited Search Tool…

In this edition we’ll be covering…

  • Claude 3.5 Haiku

  • Activating ChatGPT’s Search

  • How to get FREE API credits from xAI

  • And much more…

Let’s get into it!

Anthropic ups the Ante with Claude 3.5 Haiku

Anthropic has just released Claude 3.5 Haiku through its API and major cloud platforms. While initial evaluations show impressive performance improvements over previous Claude versions (except 3.5 Sonnet) in coding and agent-based tasks, there's a plot twist in this AI tale…

The Fine Print

  • Despite touting superior performance over Claude 3 Opus, Anthropic has significantly increased Haiku's pricing: $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens—a 4x price jump from its predecessor and a 7x hike compared to another comparable model, GPT-4o Mini.

  • Though Anthropic argues the model is more cost-effective, the price hike runs counter to the industry's trend of falling inference costs.

  • Adding to the intrigue, this new version launches without image analysis capabilities, a feature that was available in the previous Claude 3 Haiku model.

So What?

Something doesn't quite add up here. While the AI industry generally sees declining costs for model API calls, Anthropic is swimming upstream with this price increase. The combination of higher prices and fewer features raises questions about Anthropic's strategy.

Is this a tactical rebalancing act, or does it signal broader shifts in the AI landscape? Either way, users will need to weigh the improved performance against the heftier price tag.

Proxy, the AI Agent for Everyday Life

Imagine if you had a digital clone to do your tasks for you. Well, meet Proxy…

Last week, Convergence, the London based AI start-up revealed Proxy to the world, the first general AI Agent.

Users are asking things like “Book my trip to Paris and find a restaurant suitable for an interview” or “Order a grocery delivery for me with a custom weekly meal plan”.

You can train it how you choose, so all Proxy’s are different, and personalised to how you teach it. The more you teach it, the more it learns about your personal work flows and begins to automate them.

ChatGPT Search Has Perplexity and Google Quaking

OpenAI has FINALLY unleashed ChatGPT's search capabilities, transforming it into a real-time information powerhouse.

This new capability combines natural language interaction with real-time info like sports scores, news, and stock updates. This is big because:

  • Previously, the model had to rely on the information it was only trained on up to a certain cutoff date.

  • By sourcing information directly from the web, ChatGPT can cross-reference multiple sources, reducing the likelihood of errors and increasing the credibility of its responses.

To begin using it:

  1. Navigate to ChatGPT (Search is available now for ChatGPT Plus and Team users).

  2. In the message box, there is a globe icon, click that to enable real-time search.

  3. Start researching!

🔥 Pro Tip: You can change your default search to use ChatGPT Search with their Google Chrome Extension!

Try this prompt to use Search alongside ChatGPT’s Data Analysis skills. I have to say the output was pretty good:

Give me {Ticker Name} stock performance for the last 10 business days.

Return them to me in a table and give me any notable insights.

*I do not condone using ChatGPT for investment advice, just data analysis

xAI Opens Grok’s Doors to Devs (Free Credits Included)

xAI has launched its Grok API, inviting developers to tap into their advanced foundation models.

The beta release packs some impressive specs: a 128k-token context window, function calling capabilities, and system prompt support. And there's more coming—a multimodal version handling image inputs is set to launch next week.

To sweeten the deal, xAI is rolling out attractive incentives for beta testers:

  • $25 in monthly API credits through 2024.

  • Matching credits for users with prepaid accounts.

While xAI is fashionably late to the API party (OpenAI, Anthropic, and others have been serving developers for months), they're making up for lost time with competitive features and generous incentives.

The 128k context window is good to see, and the aggressive credit program suggests xAI is eager to catch up and build its developer community.
