OpenAI Launches o3 and o4-mini
OpenAI just released o3 and o4-mini, their most capable reasoning models to date and BOY do these bad boys act. They are now better at deciding when to use tools like browsing, Python, or image generation on their own, chaining actions together to solve complex tasks like an assistant who’s read your mind (and your docs).
Oh yeah, and they can understand images now too…
How much action we talkin’?
o3 is OpenAI’s best model for reasoning across code, math, science, business, and visual tasks. It sets new records on competitive benchmarks like Codeforces and GPQA—and it can even think with images, not just about them.
o4-mini is fast and frugal; smaller, cheaper, yet still top-of-class. It nails reasoning in math and coding while keeping usage limits high, great for large-scale deployments or lightweight agents.
Both models now natively use every tool in ChatGPT: search, code interpreter, image generation, file analysis, without being told.
OpenAI also dropped a minimal, open-source terminal interface called Codex CLI. It lets these models run locally on your code, analyze images and screenshots, and even help with debugging. This will probably be your new vibe coding assistant, but through your command line ;).
So What?
With reinforcement learning now being scaled like pretraining, OpenAI’s models are getting better the more they’re allowed to “think,” and the more actions they take. o3 and o4-mini weren’t just trained to be smarter, they were trained to reason strategically, deciding when and how to use tools to solve real-world problems.
They’re also OpenAI’s counterstrike in the global AI arms race. Google DeepMind, Meta, Anthropic, xAI, and DeepSeek have been shipping their own reasoning models at breakneck speed—some even surpassing OpenAI’s o1 (the original "reasoning” model).
With o3 and o4-mini, OpenAI is reclaiming ground in a field now dominated by reasoning-first systems.

Ship AI Apps Faster with Firebase Studio
Google just gave Firebase a serious upgrade, and if you’re building AI-powered apps, it might become your new favorite playground.
The new Firebase Studio (now in preview) is a cloud-based, Gemini-powered dev environment that helps you go from idea to deployed app way faster.
Here’s how to spin up an AI app with it:
Navigate to Firebase Studio. You can either start building with a prebuilt template with a framework of your choice, or you can simply prompt to prototype.
Describe your concept by telling it exactly what you want to build.
Then, you will get a generated plan, this is your chance to tweak anything before the first generation.
Let AI take care of that first draft and keep iterating in plain English!
🔥 Pro Tip: Since this is built on Firebase backend, you can one-click deploy the app to the web by hitting the Deploy button on the top right!
Some inspiration prompts:
Create a fitness app tracker that helps me optimize my routine based on previous workouts.
-------------------------------------------------------
Create a nutrition app that gives me healthy recipes based on what's in my fridge
Now go launch your SaaS product. I believe in you.

Talk to Your Sheets with AI

Now onto something super practical.
Google Sheets has a new AI function that’s basically like having a mini ChatGPT in your spreadsheet.
Here’s how you can use it:
Open any spreadsheet in Google Sheets (you need a Google Workspace Admin account to enable the Alpha setting to use the AI feature).
You can use
=AI
when you have a question/command about something in a reference cell. For example:=AI("Write a thank you email for the gift this person sent", A2)
.Click the cell, then hit Generate and Insert.
Copy your formula down as needed!
