Google’s AI Arsenal is Expanding
While everyone was watching OpenAI's Shipmas celebration, Google decided to crash the party with some major announcements of its own.
Talk about perfect timing – just as OpenAI was hanging the AI equivalent of holiday decorations, Google kicked down the door with some game-changing updates:
Gemini 2.0 Flash
Google's newest model, Gemini 2.0 Flash, marks the first release in their Gemini 2.0 family. This version prioritizes speed and scalability while maintaining high performance, specifically developed for the “age of AI agents.”
Project Astra
Google teased Project Astra back at its I/O Developers Conference, but we really didn’t hear much about it after that. The autonomous agent tool, built with Gemini 2.0, now understands multiple languages, memorizes for personalization, and seamlessly integrates with Google's ecosystem including Search, Lens, and Maps. There is currently a waitlist to test the product.
Project Mariner
This looks like Google’s version of Computer Use. Using Gemini 2.0, Mariner can understand and interact with everything on your screen automatically – from text to images to code. While it's already achieving impressive benchmark scores of 83.5% on WebVoyager, this is still actively being tested by Google.
So What?
The tech giant looks to be pushing boundaries in three key areas: model capabilities (Gemini 2.0), personal AI assistance (Astra), and browser automation (Mariner).
While some features are still in testing, this represents a significant step toward more capable and integrated AI tools, and honestly, I can’t wait to see what comes next…

Writer RAG tool: build production-ready RAG apps in minutes
RAG in just a few lines of code? We’ve launched a predefined RAG tool on our developer platform, making it easy to bring your data into a Knowledge Graph and interact with it with AI. With a single API call, writer LLMs will intelligently call the RAG tool to chat with your data.
Integrated into Writer’s full-stack platform, it eliminates the need for complex vendor RAG setups, making it quick to build scalable, highly accurate AI workflows just by passing a graph ID of your data as a parameter to your RAG tool.

Code Right in ChatGPT’s Revamped Canvas

OpenAI just gave Canvas a major upgrade that transforms it into a full-fledged coding environment. The best part? It's now available to all users through the web app, making ChatGPT an even more powerful programming assistant.
Here’s how you can set it up:
Navigate to ChatGPT and select the new View Tools button next to the message bar. Select Canvas
Prompt ChatGPT to generate code (e.g. Write me Python code to train a linear regression model)
The Canvas interface will open up, press Run on the top right to execute the Python code, right in ChatGPT!
🔥 Pro Tip: If your code ever has bugs, you can jump down to the button on the bottom right to have ChatGPT fix them for you. It will also explain the errors in your code!
