Europe is finally waking up. France is looking to lead the AI charge with ~€109 billion ($112B) in planned investments pouring into AI infrastructure over the next five years.

Looks like President Macron decided that being known for wine and cheese wasn't enough – he wants to add "AI powerhouse" to France's resume…

Key Investments Driving France’s AI Ambitions:

• A French-Emirati consortium plans to invest €50B in an AI campus.

• Brookfield (Canadian Investment firm) is committing €25B to AI and related tech.

• US firms Digital Realty & Equinix are funding major data center projects.

• Fluidstack & the French Economy Ministry aim to build the world’s largest AI supercomputer, reaching 1 gigawatt capacity.

• Microsoft & Iliad are kicking off their own billion-euro AI infrastructure.

So What?

While the U.S., China, and others have been hosting the AI party, France just RSVP'd with a €109B bottle of champagne. Macron's even comparing it to America's Stargate Project, though presumably with better fashion sense.

France might just turn "European AI" from an oxymoron into a powerhouse. They've got the locations, the clean energy, and now the cash to make it happen.

Keeping the Euro-theme going, Mistral just launched a major update to Le Chat.

Looks like the model just took a shot of espresso, because Mistral's AI assistant is now cranking out responses faster than a caffeinated copywriter. At 1,000 words per second…

In addition to that, here is what’s new with Le Chat:

• Access the latest news, manage daily tasks, track projects, and summarize documents effortlessly with Search and Canvas.

• Choose from Pro, Team, or Enterprise plans for expanded features and scalability.

• Now on mobile – Le Chat is available on iOS and Android, with private infrastructure for businesses coming soon.

Pretty sweet stuff coming from the French if you ask me. With Live Search now enabled, you can ask Le Chat a bunch of questions in realtime:

1. Navigate to Le Chat.

2. Below the chatbox, make sure the “globe” icon is ticked to On.

3. Ask away! Here’s an example prompt to get you started for doing market research:

Give me a summary of how US markets did today.

Build a Private Coding Assistant with DeepSeek

I finally found a great use case for the DeepSeek models.

Using the distilled 7B version, I created my own open-source coding copilot, fully powered by DeepSeek r1.

Without the cloud. Without the security issues. Completely free.

Here's how to set up your own using DeepSeek's 7B model:

1. Install Ollama and run this command:

ollama pull deepseek-r1:7b

2. Grab the Continue extension for VSCode.

3. Connect everything by opening Continue in VSCode, click ‘+’ in the bottom interface.

4. Select Ollama as the provider and choose Autodetect to automatically populate the model list with the models you pulled using Ollama.

I tested it building a scikit-learn linear regression model, and it works smoothly. Perfect for data science projects (shown above)!
