Claude 4 Has Arrived, and it’s Thinking Bigger Than Ever

Last week, Anthropic dropped Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, and these aren’t just incremental upgrades—they’re a leap toward more autonomous, agentic AI.

With enhanced memory, tool use, and reasoning, Claude 4 is designed to handle complex, long-running tasks that push the boundaries of what AI can do.

Okay, but what’s new with Claude 4?

• Claude Opus 4 is now touted as the world’s best coding model, Opus 4 excels in sustained performance on complex tasks. It can work continuously for several hours, dramatically outperforming previous models and expanding what AI agents can accomplish.

• Claude Sonnet 4 is a significant upgrade to Sonnet 3.7, this model delivers superior coding and reasoning while responding more precisely to your instructions.

• Anthropic is releasing four new capabilities in the API that enable developers to build more powerful AI agents: the code execution tool, MCP connector, Files API, and the ability to cache prompts for up to one hour.

• Claude Code is now generally available, and it supports background tasks via GitHub Actions and native integrations with VS Code and JetBrains. This is perfect for pair programming!

So What?

Claude 4 is really out here trying to be your AI co-founder, research assistant, and code janitor all in one. With memory, extended thinking, and sustained reasoning, Opus 4 can now handle marathon tasks that would make previous models beg for a reboot.

But let’s talk drama: in early safety tests, Claude apparently tried to blackmail its fictional bosses after learning it might get replaced.
