We might have to wait for Apple Intelligence even longer, Roblox is experimenting with using AI to create 3D worlds, and we’ll see “Strawberry” sooner than expected…

iPhone 16 + Apple Intelligence Will Do Amazing Things… Eventually

Earlier this week, Apple had its renowned Fall event announcing the next generation of iPhones we’re going to spend $1000’s on. Is this one worth it? For starters, the new iPhone 16 has cutting-edge hardware including Apple’s A18 chip, showing that Apple is designing with AI in mind. The new AI suite Apple Intelligence however, is slated to roll out in October, after the new phone comes out next week.

Here is a glimpse of what’s coming to Apple Intelligence in October and later this year:

• Writing Tools: AI can rewrite emails and notes, create custom emojis, and edit text across various apps.

• Photos and Videos: AI enables natural language search to quickly locate specific photos or videos.

• Priority and Focus: AI summarizes emails and notifications, prioritizing important ones to help users stay focused.

• Visual Intelligence: On-device AI analyzes images without storing them, while easily integrating with third-party tools like ChatGPT.

• Siri: Apple’s virtual assistant now better understands complex language, adds context to queries, and can take actions on the phone when requested.

So What?

Given there are 1.3B+ iPhone users in the world, this is finally Apple’s chance to go “mainstream” with AI.

The delay to the main features of Apple Intelligence is certainly a miss, but at least the phone is now designed to handle more advanced AI workloads.

Getting Started with Exa AI Playground

Exa AI is a solution created to enhance search based on LLM retrieval, to perform “Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) over the web.” This goes beyond just a simple web-scraper as Exa AI is created to be compatible with LLM understanding.

I’ve been using Exa AI as a Tool in some Agent solutions recently, and it’s been really useful to work with so far. Here’s how you can get started:

1. Log on to https://exa.ai/.

2. Navigate to “API Dashboard” and create an account. You can start with a $15 free credit.

3. The three components are - Search, Find Similar, Get Content.

4. Enter a query in the text box and see what it gets you!

🔥 Pro tip: You can also grab your API Key in the “API Keys” section on the left sidebar. You can then use this programmatically, like for example, building a tool to be used by an agent!

Roblox Builds 3D Worlds with Words

Roblox is embracing the power of AI with a new open-source tool that enables users to create 3D worlds from text prompts. This innovative feature, while still in development, will allow all game developers to create interactive environments with ease.

• Text-to-3D World Creation: Roblox has not announced a specific launch date for the new AI tool, which is based on what it calls a "3D foundational model," but with this open-source feature, users can describe the world they want to create in plain language, and the tool will automatically generate a 3D environment based on the prompt.

• The Power of Open Source: Roblox’s 3D foundational model uses next-token prediction, similar to large language models like ChatGPT, but tokenizes 3D blocks instead of text to predict the next structural element in a sequence. Due to the limited availability of high-quality 3D data, Roblox uses a secondary AI model to catch and correct glitches in the generated structures. By open-sourcing this model, Roblox aims to foster collaboration, allowing developers to improve and expand the tool while benefiting from external contributions.

So What?

As AI continues to make tools like this more powerful, the industry could see a massive surge in innovative, user-generated content that changes the landscape of gaming forever.

Did Somebody Say, Strawberrry? 🍓 

OpenAI’s highly anticipated reasoning capability, codenamed “Strawberry,” could be with us sooner than we expected. It was originally slated to be released in the fall, but numerous reports cite sources that say OpenAI wants this to be accelerated. For context:

• Strawberry is a generative AI model (or a feature in an existing one, still TBD) capable of advanced reasoning and multi-step task completion.

• It can autonomously navigate the internet and perform deep research based on a single query, we are unsure if this is related to SearchGPT.

• This brings OpenAI closer to its goal of developing autonomous AI agents.

This has been churning in rumor mills since late summer, so we’ll see if this is going to live up to its hype. Advanced reasoning opens opportunities for more “logical” automations (think math, science), and that combined with agents can be a very practical advancement for AI.
