+ Use AI to Create Beautiful Slide Presentations š

Adobeās Firefly is directing your next viral video, Google goes nuclear to power AI, and your slide decks finally learned to dress themselvesā¦
In this edition weāll be coveringā¦
Adobeās new Firefly Video model
How to create better slide presentations with AI
Googleās nuclear splash
And much moreā¦
Letās get into it!
Move Over Spielberg, Adobeās AI Video Director Has Entered the Chat
Adobe has officially started rolling out Firefly Video, its text-to-video generation tool. While tech giants like OpenAI, Meta, and ByteDance have showcased their own chops, those tools are still no where near being released.
Facing much larger rivals, Adobe has staked its future on building models trained on data that it has rights to use, ensuring the output can be legally used in commercial work.
Because letās be honest, nobody needs their AI masterpiece stuck in courtā¦
Key Points:
Adobe is emphasizing legal commercial use by training on rights-cleared data.
The tool prioritizes fine-grained control over camera aspects (position, angle, motion).
Major brands like Gatorade and Mattel are already using the Firefly image generation tool for commercial applications.
Check out this X thread from Min Choi (@minchoi) that shows the latest video generations put out by Adobe:

So What?
Adobeās entry into AI video generation stands out by addressing the critical issue of legal commercial use. Unlike other tools, Adobe emphasizes accountability, transparency, and respect for creators, with its Firefly models trained on licensed and public domain content.
While Metaās Movie Gen left questions about data sources (which we covered a few weeks ago), Adobe ensures trust with features like Content Credentials and the Content Authenticity Initiative.

Forget PowerPoint, Try Gamma
Gamma is an AI-powered tool designed to create slide presentations for you. This has been a very useful tool for me when creating my own slide presentations, and Iād recommend anyone who is facing the āblank pageā problem with PowerPoint to give this a go!
Hereās a quick guide to help you get started:
Navigate to Gamma and sign up.
Choose how youād like to create with AI. You can:
Generate: Enter a prompt for a fresh presentation.
Paste: Input your existing outline.
Import: Bring in a document youāve already created.
Generate your outline and pick a theme.
Hit āGenerateā to create the slideshow and edit as you wish!
Google Turns Nuclear To Power AI Workloads
Google is going nuclear ā literally. The tech giant has inked a deal with Kairos Power to use small nuclear reactors to fuel its AI operations, joining the ranks of tech companies that are splitting atoms to split datasets.
The agreement is important becauseā¦
It marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of AI infrastructure. As artificial intelligence systems become more sophisticated and widespread, their energy demands are outpacing traditional power solutions.
Nuclear power provides a carbon-free, 24/7 energy source capable of meeting AIās growing computational needs.
So What?
For industry leaders, this signals a crucial shift in how AI infrastructure planning must evolve.
The future of AI deployment may increasingly depend not just on computational capabilities, but on access to reliable, sustainable, and scalable power sources.
This new power couple (pun intended) of AI and nuclear energy might just reshape the tech landscape faster than you can say "chain reaction."

From RAG to Riches with Kotaemon

Chatting with your documents and tracing RAG just got super easy.
For context, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is a technique for enhancing the accuracy and reliability of generative AI models with facts fetched from external sources.
Kotaemon is a customizable, open-source interface designed to help users chat with documents using natural language. Okay, but why should I care? Wellā¦
It supports both local models (like Llama 3.2 via Ollama) and API-based solutions (OpenAI, Azure), offering the flexibility to work online or offline.
This project serves as a functional RAG UI for both end users who want to do QA on their documents and developers who want to build their own RAG pipeline.
So who is this for?
Knowledge workers needing quick, accurate document insights
Developers exploring RAG implementations
The best part? It's 100% free and open-source. For a simple quick-start:
Set up a conda environment:
# optional (setup env)
conda create -n kotaemon python=3.10
conda activate kotaemon
# clone this repo
git clone https://github.com/Cinnamon/kotaemon
cd kotaemon
pip install -e "libs/kotaemon[all]"
pip install -e "libs/ktem"
Create a .env
file in the root of this project. Use .env.example
as a template
The .env
file is there to serve use cases where users want to pre-config the models before starting up the app (e.g. deploy the app on HF hub). The file will only be used to populate the db once upon the first run, it will no longer be used in consequent runs.
Start the web server:
python app.py
The app will be automatically launched in your browser!

Wikipedia is an important source of training data for AIs. At least 5% of new Wikipedia articles in August were AI generated
(To be clear, this does not mean that AI will fail as it trains on its own data, synthetic data is already a part of training)

A new study from six Apple engineers shows that the mathematical "reasoning" displayed by advanced large language models can be extremely brittle and unreliable in the face of seemingly trivial changes to common benchmark problems.
